The Raízen Biogas Power Plant generates 21 MW of installed capacity, making it one of the largest biogas plants in the world. Raízen, the plant's owner and operator, uses vinasse (distillation waste) and filter cake (residue from sugar cane juice purification), both by-products of sugar cane processing by an adjacent sugar cane plant.

Products used

PENETRON ADMIX, a crystalline waterproofing additive, was used to treat 4,000 m³ (5,000 yds³) of concrete for all tanks, including the critical biogas tank. PENEBAR SW-55, swellable waterproofing strips, were used to seal the structural joints. PENETRON, a topical crystalline material, and PENECRETE MORTAR were used to seal the compounds. PENETRON ARC, an innovative active mineral protection coating developed specifically for anaerobic (and biogas) conditions, was applied topically to the gas zone of the biogas tank to protect the concrete from attack by sulfuric acid (H₂SO), a by-product of the biogas production process.
