DUPLO project foundation — PVS Chemicals Ghent

PVS Chemicals, manufacturer of chemical solutions, has started expanding their site in Ghent for a new sulphuric acid production unit. Within this project, a new 9.3 m × 5.2 m × 1 m foundation plate was realized, accounting for approximately 48.36 m³ of concrete. In order to meet the requirements of Eurocode 2, a sustainable, integral waterproofing solution based on Penetron Admix SB, combined with an adapted concrete quality, was chosen in consultation with the customer and the concrete supplier.

Activities carried out

Given the location on a chemical site and the need for sustainable protection against moisture and potentially aggressive substances, the following approach was chosen:

• Integral waterproofing of the foundation plate via Penetron Admix SB, mixed on-site at the site and at the customer's premises.
• Adjusting the dosage based on the cement content (approx. 3 kg/m³).
• On-site technical consultation with PVS Chemicals and approval of the proposed solution.

This solution allows us to achieve a much longer lifespan and better protection compared to traditional waterproofing layers with a minimal additional cost.
