The Burrows Road Tunnel is a watertight tunnel that carries six 132 kV cable circuits under Burrows Road in the Alexandria industrial area of central Sydney. The tunnel is 87 metres (285 feet) long and 2.8 metres (9 feet) in diameter. Digged into fully saturated (and contaminated) soil, the construction of this trenchless watertight tunnel required an on-site water collection and drainage system. The launch and reception wells have sunk eight meters into the contaminated soil.

Products used

PENETRON ADMIX was used for all concrete elements in both the launch pit and the receiving well to protect against water infiltration under extreme site conditions. All structural joints and pipe penetrations within the wells were sealed with PENEBAR SW waterproofing strips. The shaped connection holes were filled with PENEPLUG and PENECRETE MORTAR.
